State privacy laws requiring opt-outs are coming into effect in 2024 for Florida, Texas, Oregon, Montana, as well as the Universal Opt-Out Mechanism (UOOM) requirement in Colorado.

At Mediavine, we’ve been keeping a close eye on these changes and have already put solutions in place to help you comply:

Florida, Texas, Oregon & Montana:

We’ve added these states to our consent management platform (CMP). Now, when someone from Florida, Texas, Oregon or Montana visits your site, they will see a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” button at the bottom/in the footer of your website. Clicking this button lets residents of these states opt-out of the sales or sharing of their personal data for targeted advertising, as required by law.

Colorado UOOM:

Colorado now requires the use of Universal Opt-Out Mechanisms (UOOM). These are browser tools that let users opt out of the sharing or selling of their personal data. Global Privacy Control (GPC) is one such tool. The GPC signal communicates these privacy preferences to all the websites this person visits. Mediavine supports GPC signals in all states requiring UOOM by ceasing the tracking, collecting or processing personal data for those who enable GPC.

We will continue to update this article as new laws come into effect.
