How to Decide if Slidebar is Right for Your Site

The performance increase with Slidebar will vary across sites and is impacted by post length, reader behavior, the percentage of desktop traffic, and a few other factors.

Sites that will see the most benefit have:

  • Plenty of desktop traffic - Slidebar is only available on desktop devices (and some tablet layouts).

  • Long content - This provides the ad placement with multiple opportunities to place a new sticky sidebar ad.

  • Minimal content before the ad unit appears - Just like the regular Sticky Sidebar ad, Slidebar performs best when it comes into view just below the fold

  • High Sitewide Viewability - Instead of a single ad placement that sticks with the reader for the duration of the post, Slidebar will have multiple placements for shorter amounts of time. Monitoring the impact on site-wide viewability is encouraged.

How to Set It Up

From the dashboard, navigate to Settings > Ad Units. Scroll until you see the option to enable the ad unit.

Note: This feature may not be compatible with all themes. It’s important to check several posts and pages to ensure there are no conflicts. Sites with an infinite scroll setup will need careful inspection.

How to Monitor Performance

Slidebar is only available on desktop devices and some tablet layouts. You'll want to focus on sticky sidebar and desktop metrics.

It's best to give the unit at least a week before comparing performance. With 5-7 days of reporting, filter your dashboard to compare that timeframe with a prior period.
