Universal Player Plus: Expected Behavior and Functionality

UVP+ works by combining two things: Mediavine's standard Universal Player and an updated player that can serve Accompanying Content ads.

Accompanying Content ads require a publisher video to be present in the player. That's why your video content is needed to activate this unit. When UVP+ is running, you'll see either the standard Universal Player or UVP+ depending on which ad is available.

Accompanying Content ads typically pay more than standard outstream video ads.

• Universal Player Plus is designed to appear within your post content, close to where your reader is already engaged.
• As the reader scrolls down the page, the player shrinks and follows them so it stays visible.

• Before your video plays, a short series of ads will run. Ads may also play after your video.
• Your video will always play without sound unless the reader turns it on. If you see an ad playing with sound, you can report it here.
• Readers will see shortened clips of the video, alongside an option to view the full video by clicking Watch.
• If a reader closes Universal Player Plus, the player will return to its position in the content.

How to Enable Universal Player Plus

Confirm that there is at least one video uploaded to your Dashboard.

From the Dashboard:

Navigate to Settings > Videos

Use the drop-down menu under Include My Videos to select your video content. You will see the option for individual video selections, created playlists, or Top Videos. 

You also have the option to enable a My Latest Videos header, informing readers that the video may not be relevant to the specific post.

Select Save at the bottom of the page.

Legacy Dashboard: 

Navigate to Settings > Video

Use the drop-down menu under Include My Videos to select your video content. You will see the option for individual video selections, created playlists, or Top Videos.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a target number of videos to add to a playlist?
You only need one video to get started. Universal Player Plus will work with a single video. Adding more videos gives readers more variety and can help send traffic to different posts on your site, but it's not required.

I already have a video embedded on the page. How will that work when Universal Player Plus is enabled?
Embedded videos will continue to be click-to-play.

Universal Player Plus will not populate on posts with an embedded video if Optimize Video Placement is enabled.

If you would like Universal Player Plus to appear on posts with a video already embedded, disable the Optimize Video Placement setting.

Can I block Universal Player Plus from appearing on certain posts or pages?
Yes. Follow the instructions for disabling ads on specific pages, being sure to select 'Auto-Insert Sticky Video' as the option to disable.

If a reader closes the player, will it reopen?
If a reader closes Universal Player Plus, the player won't disappear entirely. It will move back to its original spot in your content and switch to the standard Universal Player format.

How many ads will play before my video?
The number of ads that play before your video can vary. Universal Player Plus is built to prioritize serving high-value Accompanying Content ads, so the ad experience comes first. Your video will play in shortened clips, with ads running before and after.

Can I customize the header for UVP+?
Not currently. 

How can I track earnings?
Universal Player Plus will display revenue in the Dashboard under the Universal Player ad unit.
