[Mediavine Universal Player](https://help.mediavine.com/video?hsLang=en#mediavine-universal-player) # Universal Player Plus ## Universal Video Player Plus (UVP+) is a video ad unit that uses your existing video content to unlock a higher-value type of ad called an Accompanying Content ad. These ads typically earn more than standard video ads, which means more revenue for your site. ### Universal Player Plus: Expected Behavior and Functionality UVP+ works by combining two things: Mediavine's standard [Universal Player](https://help.mediavine.com/the-universal-video-player?hsLang=en)and an updated player that can serve Accompanying Content ads. Accompanying Content ads require a publisher video to be present in the player. That's why your video content is needed to activate this unit. When UVP+ is running, you'll see either the standard Universal Player or UVP+ depending on which ad is available. Ads may also play after your video. - Your video will always play without sound unless the reader turns it on. If you see an ad playing with sound, you can [report it here.](https://help.mediavine.com/reporting-video-ads-with-sound?hsLang=en) - Readers will see shortened clips of the video, alongside an option to view the full video by clicking *Watch*. - If a reader closes Universal Player Plus, the player will return to its position in the content. ### How to Enable Universal Player Plus UVP+ turns on automatically, so there's nothing you need to do! Mediavine creates videos for your site to play in the player. You can also add your own videos alongside or instead of the one Mediavine creates. ### Disable Automatic Video Generation and Universal Player Plus This option is only available in the [updated dashboard.](https://publishers.mediavine.com/login?redirect=) This turns off automatic enrollment, but you can still enable UVP+ manually and use your own video content instead. 1. Log in to your Mediavine Dashboard 2. Go to Settings 3. Select Video 4. Here's what to know about how it works and your options. **Why do I suddenly have a video on my site?** We've automatically generated a video for your site to help you access higher-earning video ad demand. No setup was required on your end. **Can I turn this off?** Yes — there's a self-serve opt-out toggle on your Video Settings page if you'd prefer not to run it. **If I don't like the video you made, do I have to turn UVP+ off?** No. You can upload your own video, or make one with the Video Maker tool, so you can keep running UVP+ and get that revenue boost. **Can I make my own video instead of the one you generated?** Yes. Use the new Video Maker tool (currently in beta) in Mediavine Labs to build your own video from your site's content in just a couple of clicks. You can also upload your own video content if you have it. **What does toggling on "Disable automatic video generation" do for me?** It keeps you from getting an auto-generated video made by Mediavine to serve in UVP+. **Are the videos you make AI-generated?** No. We don't generate any new images, footage, or writing. It takes photos and titles already published on your site and assembles them into a video for you. Nothing is invented. ### Using your own video content You also have the option to use your own video content with Universal Video Player Plus. To start, confirm that there is at least one [video uploaded to your Dashboard](https://help.mediavine.com/how-to-upload-a-new-mediavine-video?hsLang=en). **From the Dashboard:** Navigate to Settings \> Videos ![Settings Videos](https://help.mediavine.com/hs-fs/hubfs/Settings%20Videos.png?width=670&height=382&name=Settings%20Videos.png) After selecting *Enable Universal Video Player Plus*, use the drop-down menu to select your video content to include. You will see the option for individual video selections, created playlists, or *Top Videos*. Select *Save* at the bottom of the page. ### **Frequently Asked Questions** **Is there a target number of videos to add to a playlist?**You only need one video to get started. Universal Player Plus will work with a single video. Adding more videos gives readers more variety and can help send traffic to different posts on your site, but it's not required. **Can I customize where Universal Player Plus appears within the content?** No. Mediavine places your video automatically in the flow of your article, choosing a spot that reads naturally and keeps your page stable. We look for a position surrounded by real content, breathing room from nearby ads, and avoid breaking up structured parts of your post. We reserve the space the player will need before it loads, so your page does not shift as readers scroll. If no position on a page meets those standards, we will not place a video there, and  Videos you have placed yourself stay exactly where you put them. **I already have a video embedded on the page. How will that work when Universal Player Plus is enabled?** Embedded videos will continue to be click-to-play. Universal Player Plus will not populate on posts with an embedded video if *Optimize Video Placement* is enabled. If you would like Universal Player Plus to appear on posts with a video already embedded, [disable the Optimize Video Placement setting](https://help.mediavine.com/how-to-disable-optimize-placement-on-one-video-mediavine-help-center?hsLang=en). **Can I block Universal Player Plus from appearing on certain posts or pages?** Yes. Follow the instructions for [disabling ads on specific pages](https://help.mediavine.com/disable-ads-on-specific-pages?hsLang=en), being sure to select 'Auto-Insert Sticky Video' as the option to disable. **If a reader closes the player, will it reopen?**If a reader closes Universal Player Plus, the player won't disappear entirely. It will move back to its original spot in your content and switch to the standard Universal Player format. **How many ads will play before my video?** The number of ads that play before your video can vary. Universal Player Plus is built to prioritize serving high-value Accompanying Content ads, so the ad experience comes first. Your video will play in shortened clips, with ads running before and after. **Can I customize the header for UVP+?** Not currently.  **How can I track earnings?** Universal Player Plus will display revenue in the Dashboard under the **Universal Player** ad unit.
