Google Analytics 4, also known as GA4, is Google's updated analytics service that measures your traffic and user engagement. As of July 2023, Google is replacing the current version of analytics, known as Universal Analytics or UA, with GA4.

If you don't have a GA4 property set up in your Google Analytics dashboard, don't worry! You can easily set one up following the instructions in this article.

Check your GA4 timezone

Before connecting your GA4 property to the dashboard, you'll want to make sure it's set to the New York timezone to ensure reporting in your dashboard is accurate, since the dashboard reports in Eastern Standard Time.

This article will walk you through you how to check your GA4 property's current timezone, and how to set up a new GA4 property with the New York timezone if needed.

Steps to connect your GA4 property to the Mediavine dashboard

  1. Log into your Mediavine Dashboard. On the left-hand menu, go to Settings > GA4, and you'll see the following pop up. If you don't have GA4 yet, follow the steps in this article to set up your property. Otherwise, click "I Have GA4".

2. Click "Sign in with Google", choose the account associated with your GA4 property, then click "Confirm".

3. Check off the "See and download your Google Analytics data" box, then click "Continue".

4. You should be directed back to the GA4 settings page in the dashboard. Then you can choose your GA4 property from the "Select Property" dropdown menu and click "Save". Note that this dropdown will only let you choose a GA4 account set in the New York timezone.*

*If you don't see any options in the dropdown menu, doublecheck your Google Analytics account and make sure a GA4 property is set up. If you do see options but can't select them, doublecheck that the property you're trying to choose is set to the New York timezone.

5. You should see the following success message that your GA4 account is connected to the dashboard!

And that's it! We aren't officially switching to GA4 quite yet and will continue to use Universal Analytics in the meantime, but we're still recommending our publishers connect their GA4 property ahead of time to be fully prepared for the switch.
